## **What is A/B Testing**

A/B Testing also known as split testing is a user experience research method used to compare two versions of a product experience to understand which performs better.

The variable can be user flow navigation path UI interaction or task completion journey.

Version A represents the original flow and Version B represents the variation.

Users interact with both versions and their behavior and feedback help determine which flow performs better.

## **How A/B Testing User Flow Works**

In A/B testing users are exposed to different navigation flows.

- Version A is the control flow
- Version B is the variation flow

Users complete tasks in each flow and provide feedback.

You then compare

- Ease of navigation
- Task success
- User preference

## **Methods to Run A/B Testing for Navigation**

UXArmy supports two main approaches

- **Using Multiple Prototype Tasks with Group**
- **Using Single Prototype with Multiple Flows**

# **Using Multiple Prototype Tasks with Group**

This is the most structured and recommended approach

Users experience each flow separately and then compare A/B

## **Step 1: Create Group for Flow A**

### **Add Prototype Task**

- Add Prototype Task inside a Group
- Upload or connect your prototype file
- Select Starting Screen
- Define Success Path Criteria

### **Important UI Features**

- Starting Screen allows you to control where the user begins
- Success Path Criteria allows tracking of task completion
- Example Search Results Product Detail Wishlist

### **Add Task Instructions**

- Clearly describe what the user needs to do
- Example “Imagine you are using this app to complete a task”

## **Step 2: Add Rating Scale for Flow A**

- Add Rating Scale inside the same Group
- Ask usability focused question

Example

“How easy or difficult did you find navigating through this path”

### **Scale Setup**

- Use 5 point scale
- Can use Custom Text or numeric scale
- Option to Reverse Scale if needed

## **Step 3: Duplicate Group for Flow B**

- Duplicate the entire Group
- Replace Prototype A with Prototype B
- Update Starting Screen if needed
- Update Success Criteria if flows differ
- Keep rating question same

This ensures fair A/B comparison

## **Step 4: Add Final A/B Comparison Task**

### **Create Multiple Choice Task**

- Turn off Allow Multiple Selections
- Enable Add Images
- Enable Use Image as options
- Upload screenshots of Flow A and Flow B

### **Ask Comparison Question**

- Which flow was easier to use A or B
- Which flow helped you complete the task faster
- Ask users to explain why

# **Using Single Prototype with Multiple Flows**

This approach allows users to compare flows inside one prototype

## **Step 1: Add Prototype Task**

- Upload a prototype containing multiple flows
- Each flow should be accessible inside the prototype
- Ensure navigation between flows is clear

## **Step 2: Configure Prototype Settings**

- Set Starting Screen
- Add Success Path Criteria for each flow
- Ensure flows are reachable

## **Step 3: Add Follow Up Question Task**

- Add Multiple Choice or Open Question
- Use image references if needed

Example:

“Which flow did you prefer A or B and why”

## **Step 4: Group Tasks**

- Group Prototype Task and Question Task
- Ensures structured experience
